If anyone knows anything about British Aristocracy then the name Lord Alexander Thynn, the 7th Marquess of Bath will bring a smile to your face.
Here you have a lovely tea towel (I did warn you it was Souvenir Sunday). It features pictures of the main house at Longleat, Wiltshire, the Safari Park, The Love Maze and the Orangery.
Anyone doing the Sunday Souvenir hunt to Stonehenge and the Roman baths at Bath must surely leave several hours if not a day aside to visit this stately home that Alexander has pretty much single-handedly turned the stately home business into a multi-million dollar industry. His father opened up Longleat in the late 40's and held Teddy Bears picnics. Great marketing as your scored 2 generations of fans who would in turn bring their families. His son now has the title, handed over in 2010.
Alexander has a remarkable taste in Art as in life. His Art collection is both eclectic and and remarkable as is his life. His long written and even longer anticipated First Volume auto-biography was published several years ago. I suggest a read.
In respect of keeping my post about a tea towel brief as a side note. Alexander has several pieces of Artwork by my mother in-law and books. Her style is also eclectic and is hidden in the Tate Modern. He leads an extra-ordinary life. We were to lunch with him at Longleat prior to repatriation back to Australia. He has a property also in Nottinghill Gate. My husband grew up in Nottinghill, it is indeed a magnificent part of London.
Please enjoy the tea towel which was sent to us 2 years ago. I doubt we will use it for the washing!
