Early Cast Iron Skillets Pre 1880 Early Cast Iron Skillets Pre 1880

From between 1820's to 1880 the American Industrial Age with respect to Iron was really taking off. The craftsmanship and construction is of a standard to which Manufacturers today can't compare with. Foundries from New England, New York stretching out to the Midwest ran around the clock to produce many products for a growing nation and said products followed the westward migration. The picture illustrates the style of Skillet handles during this period. Rarely did a Manufacturer put their name on these products as they were to be sold along with a Wood or Coal Cook Stove. Griswold and Wagner had nothing on these earlier Companies.

Skillets pictures are either left or right pour, "lipless", and some with "pouring lips" on both sides. All of these have what is called a "Gatemark" located on the bottom (see second picture).
