I love how this dome really shows off my vintage coffee pot and hand mixer. The dome looks great empty...it's just so pretty...but it really pops with my collectibles in it. I have it on my mantle.

These wonderful shakers are some of those items from my childhood I now treasure. It was one of those typical gifts from pharmaceutical laboratories to practitioners at the time, and my father being one got a lot of these great stuff. Unfortunately most of that with "good design" was thrown away in time. I remember they were kept on the kitchen window sill when I was a kid and with these great shapes and colours it isn't strange I was always handling them!!! The good thing is that they were our everyday shakers!

I cannot tell why my mother stoped using them (it probably hapened when two neighbours gave her an orange set of olive and vinegar bottles with matching salt and pepper shakers, an imitation of a very popular design of the 70s produced by the Spanish brand Valira), and years later I "discovered" them at the bottom of one of the kitchen cabinets and claimed them for myself (when i moved into my first apartment).

This little guy was found on a local garage sale website. It's a little faded but I think it'll show just fine when I get a bunch of Planter's snack packs to fill it. That reminds me, I was supposed to buy some Lance peanut bars too.

Could this be a Bauer or just California pottery? Who knows?

Could this be a Bauer or just California pottery? Who knows? Could this be a Bauer or just California pottery? Who knows? Could this be a Bauer or just California pottery? Who knows?

My grandmother bought this for me as a wedding gift for something old since I collect pottery. We were at an antique shop in Burbank, CA and found this. The owner of the shop told me that was from an estate locally and was a real wedding gift. The box was not there but this has never been used. I had asked the Bauer Guy and he was stumped. I believe it's around the 40's. If anyone has any clue, I'd really appreciate any input answers or feedback.

Cheers!

Small silver dish - need info please Small silver dish - need info please

This is a small "silver" dish. 2 3/4 inches in diameter and 3/8 inches deep. I am hoping that someone can provide info for me. There is a manufacturer's stamp on the underside. It looks like a honey bee along with the initials C G. I have searched the internet to try to locate the manufacturer, but was unsuccessful. I know it's not sterling silver, it is not stamped as such and hasn't tarnished like sterling does. Thanks so much!

Victorian Moustache Cup

Victorian Moustache Cup Victorian Moustache Cup Victorian Moustache Cup Victorian Moustache Cup

He we have an antique hand painted porcelain mustache cup with an ornate embossed design of a heart with 2 doves above 2 cherubs kissing. It has Victorian style/gold accents.

Mustaches flourished among men throughout the Victorian era. They had dyed, stiff, & curled mustaches with every hair held in place by gobs of wax. Their mustaches often drooped into the tea or coffee cup when they were drinking causing them to drip their colorful dyes & melt the waxes into their drink. Mustache cups were invented in 1860's in England by a British potter named Harvey Adams. They were called "Moustache Cups". The invention sported a ledge, called a mustache guard, across the cup. The guard had one semi-circular opening against the side of the cup. As the gentlemen sipped through the opening, their mustaches rested safe & dry on the mustache guard. They could enjoy their favorite hot beverage peacefully.

This mustache cup measures approximately 3 1/16" (7.8 cm) tall & 4 3/8" (11.1 cm) wide including the handle.

I had to buy this poor silver-plated tray made by WMF Ikora. It's been sitting over at the Melbourne Goodwill for at least a month now. I'm assuming from the label it is from 1972. It does have scratches which is probably why no one wanted it.
Here are my old copper tumblers made by WMF circa 1910-14. You can compare the marks

I found this cool Tiki ( it was a great week for Tikis) mug a couple of weeks ago. at GW. It is from "The Tikis" a kitshy club in Monterey Park California. The place has been described as an amusement park with alcohol. Sitting on about 12 acres..it's had everything.
The mugs were made by Otagiri.. the makers of much fine ceramic schlock from Japan between 1958 - 1994
Ahhh...those WERE great times

WEDGWOOD KEITH MURRAY.

WEDGWOOD KEITH MURRAY. WEDGWOOD KEITH MURRAY. WEDGWOOD KEITH MURRAY. WEDGWOOD KEITH MURRAY.

A few weeks ago I went out on a Monday morning and saw these in the window of a Vinnies. Immediate recognition. I bought a full set of six matte green mugs and the jug in the early seventies. They were probably earlier from the thirties because of the script mark on them. I sold them all twelve years ago with the rest of the Keith Murray collection when I down-sized before coming into the new apartment.

Recently I've learnt that the set was called a "lemonade set". I had thought it was for beer. An Australian sensibility. To me they look straight out of Valhalla.

Keith Day Pearce Murray (5 July 1892 - 1981) was a New Zealander. In 1936 Keith Murray was appointed architect in charge of designing the new Wedgwood factory at Barlaston, Staffordshire. He was an architect and designer working in ceramics, glass and metalware. He was a designer for Wedgwood in the 1930s and 1940s. In glass he worked for Stevens & Williams of Brierley Hill. Objects of great desire! Limited edition pieces only issued in quantities of six or twelve. In metal he worked for Mappin and Webb.

These have the Wedgwood, Barlaston mark and that lovely engine turned decoration. There were four. One of them had a hairline. I've learnt now to leave the imperfect pieces behind.
I missed the others that I had and sold so I am going to keep these and use them for beer, on occasions!

Friar and nun salt & pepper shakers (probably Spain, 1960s)

Friar and nun salt & pepper shakers (probably Spain, 1960s)

Once more I am bringng you some of the items I grew up with: the amazing naughty friar and naughty nun salt & pepper shakers!

They were some of the top seller souvenirs in the Spain of the 1960s and 1970s, or at least I remember seeing them all over Spain when I was a kid. I also remember our neighbours downstairs had their own set, but their nun wore dark habits... which means I like ours the best.

I quite liked these and even if i didn't play with them, I guess that at some point I wished I had my own monastry of naughty shakers, all with different habits and probablu more monks than nuns...

I have seen simmilar friar shakers being made in Germany... so thee's always the doubt about who made them first. In any case, so far I haven't seen nun shakers so that gives Spain one point.

These candy trays look like faceted glass but are actually plastic and come in a range of colours with pink being the most common. They were popular in the 60s/70s and made in Hong Kong. They were usually used during the Lunar New Year festivities for cookies, sweets and other festive goodies, each housed in their individual sections, and served to visiting guests.

Anyone else get one of these as a kid? Put together it's a clown. Taken apart from the top down is the hat (salt shaker), the head (egg cup), the upper torso (drinking cup?), lower torso (cereal bowl), & feet ( saucer). Haven't seen another but guess it might have been ordered from the back of a cereal box. I'm the original owner but my memory isn't that good.
